Pool Fencing: Tips On How to Maintain And Clean It

The relaxation a swimming pool brings about can easily get destroyed by two things: lacking any form of fencing or failing to maintain whatever type that you have put in place. The former is a safety hazard. You could have your child or pet easily drown in the pool when you are not around. While you may have gone ahead to ensure that your child and pet are safe, if the fence is neglected, it could make the pool area look deserted and unwelcoming. Maintenance is easy. You can do it yourself -without any professional help.

Different material

There are different materials used to fence - glass, wire mesh, aluminium, steel, and vinyl. Each has its own pros and cons. Personal preference also comes into play.

Wire Mesh

If you have used wire mesh, you will not have any mold to battle. This does not however mean that you will not need to clean the fence. Once a season is good enough. Go for mild soaps as harsh chemicals for instance ammonia could harm the material. Cleaning is also necessary before storage.

- Before Cleaning

Before you begin cleaning, moisten the mesh using a hose pipe under high pressure. You should spray area by area from top to bottom and wait for some time. This allows the water to soak in. Clean using warm water and a mild soap. It will be beneficial to consult a chemical manufacturer if the fence is really stained. You may need to use stronger soaps or acidic white vinegar.

- When Cleaning

When cleaning, ensure that the brush has soft bristles. Cleaning should be done in a horizontal motion and an area at a time. This will ensure that you will not leave any stains behind or stain cleaner areas at the top. Cleaning and rinsing an area at a time will also ensure that soap does not dry out. If any area does not get clean with the first scrub, leave it and come back to it later. If you intend to store the fencing, ensure that it is completely dry.

Glass

If the material you opted for was glass, you will also clean it using warm water and soap. However, this time go for a sponge. This ensures that no scratches are left on the material. Just leave the glass to dry by itself. You need not dry it. However the posts and railings can be dried using a soft sponge.

Aluminium

For Aluminium, cleaning should be done from bottom up. This minimizes streaking. Maintenance includes ensuring that anything that can cause corrosion is kept at bay. Fasteners should only be made of aluminium, galvanized steel or copper. If there will be any run off water from either copper or lead roofing, it should never come into contact with the aluminium. Unseasoned timber has a lot of sap that can result in irremovable stains.

As it is evident, cleaning and maintaining your pool fence is very manageable, no matter what material it is made from. Give your pool fencing a new look today.
